Why now is the perfect time to visit Vienna

Vienna is a popular year-round destination for city trips. But to us, now is the perfect time to go there. The big crowds have left, the city slows down and everybody gathers in the cosy, traditional coffee houses. We’re sharing with you our not-to-miss events and our favourite spots for a relaxing Viennese winter holiday at Ruby Sofie, Ruby Marie or Ruby Lissi.

Cultural highlights for everyone

New year, new exhibitions, performances and events. In winter, Vienna puts forward its top-class cultural program and the city turns into a paradise for art-lovers like we are. Our favourite spots this winter:

  • Egon Schiele Reloaded – the anniversary | 28.09.2018 – 10.03.2019
The Leopold Museum celebrates the centenary of Egon Schieles death by displaying the most extensive collection of his work. Egon Schiele was one of Austrias most important representatives of expressionism. The exhibition will run until 10 March 2019.
  • Koloman Moser19.12.2018-22.04.2019
The artist Koloman Moser was an all-rounder and a pioneer of the Vienna Moderne. He worked in the disciplines of painting, graphic arts and interior design as well as fashion and stage design. The MAK shows his widespread work and reveals how much he has shaped the Viennese art scene. End of the exhibition: 22 April 2019.
  • Chinese Whispers | 30.01.-26.05.2019
The MAK hosts another exhibition that is definitely worth a visit. Collector Uli Sigg brings a big collection of contemporary Chinese art to Vienna that covers current cultural and sociopolitical topics.

Ball season – meet me on the dancefloor

Vienna is famous for the Waltz, classical music and the glamorous balls that take place around New Year. We love those classical balls in venerable locations to admire all those fancy dresses,  catch a glimpse on some celebrities or maybe even show off our Waltz dancing skills. In case you’re not that into classical music and formal events: There are also some quirky, more ironic balls with great DJs and funny themes. These are the events you’ll definitely find us on the dancefloor, all dressed up in our very own interpretation of black tie.

  • Die Große Volksgarten Ballnacht | 26 January
The motto “Glitter & gold – more is more” says it all.
  • 10. Wiener Technoball | 23 February
Excellent techno and house music on three floors and various show acts will keep you entertained all night.
  • Rosenball | 28 February
This event is a persiflage and homage to the Viennese ball culture at the same time. We love the colorful, diverse atmosphere.

Coffee all day

Vienna is a paradise for coffee lovers like us. Its coffee house tradition dates back to the 19th century and even belongs to the UNESCO world heritage. There are not only beautiful old coffee houses to discover, but also many trendy third wave cafés. There’s no better way to spend a rainy day than with creamy cake, delicious coffee and good talks in cosy atmosphere. Some of our all-time favourites:

  • Café Phil
A place, that feels like a huge living room – with books to sell, vintage furniture and great coffee.
  • Jonas Reindl
The ideal place for connoisseurs that value high quality, organic coffee.
  • Café Sperl
A traditional coffee house, founded in 1880, with beautiful interior and live piano music every Sunday from 3:30 pm.
